The particle size of carbon black is measured by electron microscopy and is the average size of a certain number of particles.


The structure of pigmented carbon black is a characterization of the degree of chain branching formed by the aggregates of pigmented carbon black particles, which indicates the degree of voids in the pigmented carbon black. Usually expressed as oil absorption value (DBP absorption value).

Blackness (reflectivity)

The blackness of pigmented carbon black is usually expressed by the data measured by "reflectance tester". In most cases, it also reflects the original particle size of the pigmented carbon black. It is one of the important parameters to measure the market price of the pigmented carbon black. The lower the reflectance is, the higher the black degree of the pigmented carbon black is, and the smaller the particle size is. Vice versa.

Coloring power

It shows the ability of dyeing white body with pigment carbon black. Generally, it has high dyeing power and good covering property. The test method is carried out according to ASTM-3265.

PH value

It represents the acidity and alkalinity of pigmented carbon black. Pigment carbon black in general furnace process is alkaline (PH > 7). The PH value of treated carbon black is higher than that of treated carbon black in the range of 3-5.

Expression density

The weight of carbon black per unit volume, i.e. (g/l), indicates the size of space occupied by various types of carbon black. The larger the particle size, the higher the performance density, and vice versa, the smaller the particle size, which has an impact on the dispersion of carbon black (especially in plastics, paints and inks).

Volatile matter

The number of oxygen-containing groups carried on the surface of the pigment carbon black reflects its surface physical, electrochemical and application properties, and is also one of the important parameters to measure the market price of the pigment carbon black.

Heating decrement

The moisture content of pigmented carbon black is determined at a certain temperature, which is related to the production environment of pigmented carbon black. It eliminates the genes produced when the polymer is decomposed, so the protective effect is enhanced.
